Historical Research and Consultancy
Historical research and consultancy can encompass quite a lot, from having archival material appraised or a company’s history researched to having research carried out for a personal historical project. While my own research area is on the early modern period (c. 1500–1800), I have worked for clients well beyond this, as far forward as the twentieth century and as far back as late antiquity. Whether you are looking for archival research, a literature review, detailed research on a specific query or general historical consultancy work, just drop me a message with the details of the project and I’ll let you know if I can help.

Manuscript Transcription (Palaeography)
Much of my work as a historian had been rooted in manuscript studies and the editing and preparation of manuscripts for publication. If you are working with manuscripts for a project and the handwriting is proving impenetrable, I can help with transcribing these and provide you with a fully edited text. I specialise in early modern handwriting, though my palaeographical work has extended to nineteenth and twentieth-century documents as well. Whatever might be involved, the best approach is to email me, preferably with a one-page sample of the document involved and details of how long the full manuscript is. Based on this, I can let you know how feasible it will be to transcribe the manuscript and other particulars.
Historical Writing
People need historical writing for all manner of purposes. Some forms of historical copy that I can work on are as follows:
- Historical blog posts
- Script-writing
- Ghost-writing
- General copy for websites
Not everyone’s project will fit into the above parameters, so just drop me a message if you have something with less conventional parameters and I’ll see if I can work on it.

Copyediting, Referencing and Indexing
While the advent of more sophisticated grammar checkers on MS Word and the like over the past decade has made it possible for anyone to produce a text which is reasonably accurate in terms of the spelling and grammar, these are not 100% accurate, particularly so if you are looking to have an article or book finished to an academic standard. And beyond grammar and the like, there will always be room for editors to make texts more readable. If you have a text which needs to be copyedited, or an indexing or referencing job (large bibliographies included) let me know.
